Sometime after Saturday June 10, someone took an axe to the single tree on the hillside in the fairway for Hole 5, and chopped it down! I drove by this morning just to see how the gravel pads were holding up and whether folks were abiding by our request to stay off the pads, and as I drove by the middle three holes along Minnesota Dr, I saw the tree just laying there next to a 3 ft stump. I drove around and walked in to see what was going on, and it's pretty clear that someong chopped it down! UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
I know it wasn't like that Saturday evening as I posted signs at each teepad around 6:00pm.
At least the broken basket at Hole #3 can be rewelded and will be good as new. This damage cannot be repaired. The tree is now gone. Never mind that it completely changes the challenge of that hole.
Unfortunately, we cannot be on the course every minute of every day to watch for this kind of behavior. Aside from talking to people, encouraging folks to joing ADGA, and having a presence at the course, I don't know what we can do to prevent this. If anyone has any ideas about how to identify the idiot(s) that would do something like this, let's hear it.
At least no one seems to be bothering the gravel pads - some consolation, eh?
