I hear there is some sort of voting or nomination for new officers. What does it take to be a part of this and how do you get nominated?

Season Finale Tournament!

Save the dates, Saturday & Sunday October 4-5.
The Season Finale Tournament will be a 2-day PDGA c-tier event, held at Kincaid and Russian Jack (the Jack Attack is back!). Kincaid is playing better and better, and we'll bring out the 18 at the Jack just for the tournament!
Great prizes for the Ams (discs! bags! baskets!) and of course the cash...

Lost Discs

What is the Associations standing on calling the number on a disc if you find a lost disc?.I always make a attempt to return any disc i find with a name and # on it,I recently lost a disc and have a good idea of who found it and am pretty disappointed .My name and # are on the disc and the party that was 2 holes behind my group all know me .it's a shame that you have to offer a reward for people to do the right thing any more and a bad reflection on the type of people playing the sport.

Fiarbanks Disc Golf

We constructed a nine hole disc golf course last summer and plan on adding another nine holes this summer. As long as we're showing the love to the folks who are maintaining our disc golf courses around town, Mr. Kerry Sticka, a Phys Ed teacher at Gruening, used his own time and personal equipment to completely rebuild the disc golf baskets at Gruening Middle School this summer. For those of you who aren't aware, almost every one of the 18 baskets that were installed there in 2005 had been vandalized to the point of being unusable....

007 has done it again. Last weekend #6 at westchester was vandalized and 007 ( Ken Pitts) had it taken down, rewelded and back up before most members knew there was a problem. This get it done style is the way Kenny opperates. Over the years he has made many contributions to disc golf in Anchorage, Eagle River and Peters Creek. Not only volunteer hours in the hundreds but hard cold cash too. Thanks Kenny, without your hardwork and positive mental attitude many important disc golf...

volunteer hours at the goon

The ADGA adopted two areas around the course at westchester for 2006. It is time to report back to the muni about how many volunteers and how many hours they volunteered on various projects at the goon. I was there for some of them but not all so if you volunteered at the goon this year please take a minute and post it here or call me at 272-0515 so we can give an accurate accounting. thanks! timk

Westchester cleanup on 4/23

The Earth Day clean-up at Westchester was successful. Great weather and a volunteer spirit from the participants contributed to a fresh clean new look for the course. Thanks to Merideth for the initial idea and ADGA members Greg, Matt, Brandon, Steve, Kenny and Brook. Quite a few non-members also helped out. There are still some trash bags left to be used throughout the year and they are available at 272-0515.

Course Development

At the last member meeting the club decided to start a course development committee and I asked for the chance to give this idea a try.

There were three main purposes for this committee that were agreed upon.

1. Find potential areas for new courses and try to put those courses in place.

2. Maintaining the existing courses and facilities.

3. Keeping the areas surrounding the courses clean and in generally good shape.

This is quite a lot of work and...

Time to elect new officers.

I am willing to stand for election as an officer in the ADGA. One of the first tasks I intend to undertake if elected will be to to rewrite the bylaws to form seperate branches for competion and everything else. I belive the club has been dominated by the competive events to the detriment of Disc Golf in general and the design, construction and improvement of new and existing courses in specific. timk

New Bylaws for the ADGA

Let's use this topic to discuss changes to the existing bylaws. Here are a few proposed changes for starters: 1- take 80% of the existing bylaws and apply them to a new committee that runs all competitive events. The guiding principal of the Competition Committee is to support growth of the PDGA. 2- write some language for the Course Revision and Course Development committees. The guiding principal to be to encourage the growth of disc golf in general. timk

plastic

I have a couple questions about the club and tourney plastic.
1. Why so much Discraft? I would give my left arm for some true flying plastic.....
2. Why all the heavy plastic? Lighter plastic is much easier for beginning players to throw and I tell all new players who I meet to get light and stable discs. Yet all the plastic available, at tourney's and otherwise, seems heavy and overstable.
Is it possible to mix it up a little? just curious.......

Work at Peters Creek/member meeting

The Alaska Disc Golf Association will hold a work day Saturday at Peters Creek Disc Golf Course, again, and we are holding work days each of the next three Saturdays to finish the course before the snow flies.

Sept 10, Pile brush for chipping, and organize logs in fairways 9 a.m.
Sept 17, rent a backhoe for tee boxes and tee signs 9 a.m.

Sept 24, rent a bucket for hauling D1, a compactor and have 10-12 yards of D1 delivered 9:00am, Order 40 sacks of Redi-mix delivered to...
